Real-time Voltage Regulation in Distribution Systems via Decentralized PV Inverter Control

We consider the decentralized reactive power control of photovoltaic (PV) inverters spread throughout a radial distribution network. Our objective is to minimize the expected voltage regulation error, while guaranteeing the robust satisfaction of distribution system voltage magnitude and PV inverter capacity constraints. Our approach entails the offline design and the online implementation of the decentralized controller. In the offline control design, we compute the decentralized controller through the solution of a robust convex program. Under the restriction that the decentralized controller have an affine disturbance feedback form, the optimal solution of the decentralized control design problem can be computed via the solution of a finite-dimensional conic program. In the online implementation, we provide a method to implement the decentralized controller at a time-scale that is fast enough to counteract the fluctuations in the system disturbance process. The resulting trajectories of PV inverter reactive power injections and nodal voltage magnitudes are guaranteed to be feasible for any realization of the system disturbance under the proposed controller. We demonstrate the ability of the proposed decentralized controller to effectively regulate voltage over a fast time-scale with a case study of the IEEE 123-node test feeder

Networked Cournot Competition in Platform Markets: Access Control and Efficiency Loss

This paper studies network design and efficiency loss in open and discriminatory access platforms under networked Cournot competition. In open platforms, every firm connects to every market, while discriminatory platforms limit connections between firms and markets to improve social welfare. We provide tight bounds on the efficiency loss of both platforms; (i) that the efficiency loss at a Nash equilibrium under open access is bounded by 3/2, and (ii) for discriminatory access platforms, we provide a greedy algorithm for optimizing network connections that guarantees efficiency loss at a Nash equilibrium is bounded by 4/3, under an assumption on the linearity of cost functions

Transparency and Control in Platforms for Networked Markets

In this work, we analyze the worst case efficiency loss of online platform designs under a networked Cournot competition model. Inspired by some of the largest platforms today, the platform designs considered tradeoffs between transparency and control, namely, (i) open access, (ii) controlled allocation and (iii) discriminatory access. Our results show that open access designs incentivize increased production towards perfectly competitive levels and limit efficiency loss, while controlled allocation designs lead to producer-platform incentive misalignment, resulting in low participation and unbounded efficiency loss. We also show that discriminatory access designs seek a balance between transparency and control, and achieve the best of both worlds, maintaining high participation rates while limiting efficiency loss. We also study a model of consumer search cost which further distinguishes between the three designs

Grounding Description-Driven Dialogue State Trackers with Knowledge-Seeking Turns

Schema-guided dialogue state trackers can generalise to new domains without further training, yet they are sensitive to the writing style of the schemata. Augmenting the training set with human or synthetic schema paraphrases improves the model robustness to these variations but can be either costly or difficult to control. We propose to circumvent these issues by grounding the state tracking model in knowledge-seeking turns collected from the dialogue corpus as well as the schema. Including these turns in prompts during finetuning and inference leads to marked improvements in model robustness, as demonstrated by large average joint goal accuracy and schema sensitivity improvements on SGD and SGD-X.Comment: Best Long Paper of SIGDIAL 202
